The Eberhard – Dallas, TX

The Eberhard opened in late 2016 and hasn’t looked back. I’ve been going back consistently since New Years when I first tried the place. From its cool and collected atmosphere to a very prompt and accommodating staff, The Eberhard is the place to be for brunch.

The Eats

The omelet is well.. the omelet. it’s not going to blow you away but you won’t be disappointed either. Well executed by the kitchen staff but it’s an omelet and speaks for itself. You know why you’re here.

Now the chicken and waffles have potential but I already think its cliche as it is. Even so, I decided to give it a try. The chicken is seasoned quite well but could be much more tender. I believe it could stand a little more marination time for more tender chicken, but the chicken actually saved the dish. The waffles were very dry and brittle. I felt like I had to keep asking for the syrup to make the meal work. They have since changed their menu since I had the chicken & waffles but I’ve heard the same continues.

Shrimp & Chorizo

Now I pride myself on my shrimp and grits, so ask around. With that being said these are very good. The grits are creamy and made with love. The shrimp is cooked perfectly and nicely flavored as well. The sauce the grits sit in are an amazing compliment and really bring the dish together. My only quip is the chorizo. I was expecting some real chorizo flavor but instead got miscellaneous pieces of sausage that didn’t add much to the meal in my opinion. They should definitely work on that but I enjoyed the meal none the less.

Buttermilk Griddle Tacos
Now as I mentioned earlier, The Eberhard has changed their menu up quite a few times. From my count, at least 3 times since I’ve started going here. Their last rendition might be one of my favorites. I’m sure the thought has crossed your mind but using a pancake as a taco shell for a breakfast taco?! Let me tell ya…. game changer. You can get your eggs cooked however you want and the taco is stuffed with bacon and sausage. Served with syrup, but if you’re anything like me you sub it for some of their homemade salsa. May not work for you, but I love it!

Smoked Trinity Hash

Saved the best for last! My favorite meal at The Eberhard is the Smoked
Trinity Hash! It has amazing flavor and tender juicy brisket. Well seasoned potatoes with a nice runny egg on top. Can’t beat it! I have to talk myself into trying other stuff I love this thing so much. The only thing I would add is a little more of the demi glace but other than that I highly recommend.

Libations

Now you all know I gots to have an A1 mimosa, and it’s safe to say Eberhard doesn’t disappoint. I’ll say this now. The Eberhard has the best mimosas in Dallas, TX. You heard it hear first. The price and experience cannot be beat!

AS you can see from their very own Instagram post they have a mimosa bar.
You get a carafe of bubbles for $8 then can dress it up however you like. You can even go glass by glass and change it up as you sip. The only catch is… the mimosa bar is only available on Sundays. If not, Sunday then you get the above mimosa carafes which bring the pain regardless.

 

All in all, I love this place and will be back time and time again. Thank you, Eberhard, for saving me from mediocre brunches. You guys get a Brunchaholics certified 4 out of 5!

Welcome to Remedy

Ask anyone in my close circle and they’ll tell you that brunching is my hobby. If it’s the weekend, and I’m in town, I’m brunching in Dallas. My favorite areas to explore are Uptown and Lower Greenville, so it’s no surprise I fell in love with a restaurant close to both. Remedy in Dallas is a hot spot on Greenville that deserves a weekend visit.

Like most restaurants I discover these days, I fell in love with the eatery via Instagram. Their daily posts of fresh menu items filled my feed for weeks before I was finally able to visit.  Tucked between HG Sply Co and Steel City Pops, Remedy seems small at first. But after you walk in, you realize the restaurant goes far back and it seems roomy with its high ceilings. The soda fountain theme makes the place as visually eye catching as Remedy’s Instagram-worthy food.

Food

To level the playing field between brunch eateries, I always order the chicken and waffles. Remedy’s chicken and waffles goes beyond the breakfast classic by adding  Nashville Hot seasonings to their meat. Topped with fresh berries and a light syrup that I couldn’t get enough of, the staple dish did not disappoint. My brunching partner ordered the Texas Shrimp & Grits which were just as scrumptious from my healthy sample.

Drinks

If you’re tired of boring mimosas for brunch, Remedy is the spot for you. Following the soda fountain theme, there are tons of unique bubbly sodas to try along with fresh cocktails. I rounded out my entree with a flavored mimosa. The price of most drinks ranged from five to 10 dollars.

Remedy is located at 2010 Greenville Avenue in Dallas, TX. Get there early for brunch served Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 am. You can make reservations online via OpenTable.

Nick & Sam’s Grill – Dallas, TX

Now when it comes to Nick & Sam’s there are multiple locations. I was saddened to find out they closed the Uptown location which was the first I went to a few years back. I believe I had seafood and spinach enchiladas (on special that day) and about 3 carafes. Safe to say it was a good day, but this review is about a different location located near the Addison area off of Preston road.


Atmosphere

Now when I say this place is nice. THIS PLACE IS NICE!!! In fact, one of the nicest brunches I’ve been to. They have an open kitchen and an upscale set up that a date would be proud to be brought to. It is definitely not a place to show up looking like a slouch. I would compare it to one of my older reviews, 51fifteen, in the Houston Galleria area.


Food

As I have been pleasantly finding out, Dallas knows how to do brunch. Nick & Sam’s menu is creative but simple. They’re known for their steaks and pizza, so I ordered something that was true to their culture. I decided on the breakfast pizza, which I’ve never ordered because I honestly never had faith in it. To me, it just doesn’t make sense as an upscale brunch item. It usually reminds me of an old cafeteria lunch breakfast pizza coming from the the bearded lady with the white apron (no offense 😐). Anyways, the waiter finally sold me on it, plus I was trying to stray away from the cliche chicken and waffles anyway. My fellow Brunchaholics ordered the Captain Crunch crusted French toast and the ABC omelette (other top brunch sellers).

Now I know I talked down on the idea of a breakfast pizza earlier. But when it arrived… BOYYYYYY  I could not stop eating it. Literally. I ate the whole pizza in one sitting. I’m not even sure if I was breathing between the time I started and finished. It was the sh**!! I mean, ff I had a choice between one night with Meagan Good and this pizza, I might be at odds. (I’m lying, I love Meagan Good, but it’s that f****** good.) The over easy eggs with the cheese and arugula were everything, and surprisingly, the marinara was light but didn’t ruin the taste. I’ve got to try out their regular pizza the next time I go back.
My fellow Brunchaholics loved their food as well. The French toast was melt in your mouth good and the omelette was cooked great, which I hold to a high standard.

 

Nick & Sam’s – Captain Crunch French Toast

I hate over cooked omelettes. You know, when the egg is all crunchy and the texture is like sand paper. Omelettes are supposed to be somewhat creamy and fluffy and fork tender like a buttery steak. Kudos to these guys for handling business in the kitchen.

Drinks
Nick & Sam’s sells the orange crack by the carafe. They are not stingy with the champagne by any means. 1-2 carafes will have you appreciating the libations, so drink with caution. Then again, as a good friend of mine says “you ain’t drinking to get sober”.

At the end of the day I have no complaints about Nick & Sam’s. I will be back.


5 out of 5 for the greatness I experienced here. On all levels — from hostess to waiter to the kitchen. The bartender was cool too. Brunch is only on Sunday’s so don’t come looking for this on a Saturday!!

Anvil Pub – Deep Ellum (Dallas, TX)

I’m starting to fall in love more and more with Dallas brunch spots. They know what they’re doing up in North Texas. (Not saying Houston doesn’t, but the creativity in Dallas is something to appreciate.)

While in town for a wedding I decided to check out Anvil Pub.

Atmosphere

Judging from the area and the outside of the bar you wouldn’t expect a St. Paddy’s celebration bar (but hey, guess I ignored the fact that pub was in the name). Before I check out a brunch spot, I usually do some research on the menu unless I am directly told about a place. I’ll admit, initially I was caught off-guard by the ambience of such a unique place, in a good way. When I walked in there were soccer flags everywhere (so, if you’re a big soccer fan I would suggest checking this place out; I’m sure it’s a good time).
With self-seating, the on-staff then comes to take care of you. As I sat down at my table and took a look at the menu, I noticed the music playing. Remember how I described the bar earlier? It was 90’s hip-hop! I mean, we’re talking everything from “This Is How We Do It” to Biggie’s “Big Poppa”. The music was jamming the entire time, I loved it; It definitely seemed like a very welcoming place to hangout.


Drinks

The ironically creative dish that brought me to this place combined the two things that made me start this blog — food and mimosas. Anvil Pub has a 4 drink selection that they like to call “The F**K Brunch Drinks”: a Mimosa, Bloody Mary, Screwdriver, And Sangria. Of course, you guys know I ordered the mimosa.
The twist on these drinks is that they come with side items. The mimosa came with a sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich, tater tots and mixed fruit, all put on skewers and inserted in the drink. Before you get grossed out, the sandwich and tater tots do not actually touch the drink. The food is prepared fresh and you’re given a half-pint of PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon for the uninitiated beer drinkers) while you wait. Talk about service!
So, the drink finally arrived and I was like a kid in a candy store. I tasted it, and it was immaculate; a fresh mimosa with a little extra. My guess is that they use high-grade fresh chilled champagne and probably added some type of liqueur.
Next, I tried the sandwich and it was delicious as you would expect. I mean, what sausage, egg and cheese sandwich isn’t, right? All the while my waitress is checking in every five minutes to make sure I’m okay, while “No Diggity” is playing in the background — my type of place.

 

Anvil Pub – F**k Brunch Mimosa

Food (well the other stuff at least)

It felt weird to only try the drink, so I ordered a Salmon Eggs Benedict. Slightly ambitious to order at a pub but I figured hey why not. So far so good. I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted the food and found out they had some real talent in the kitchen. Although slightly salty, the smoked salmon they used was delicious and the perfectly poached eggs were so impressive that I will definitely be coming back to try some other items on the menu. The only ding I would give them was their hash browns. They were more like potato matchsticks and tasted like old grease. Barely touched them. Other than that, Anvil Pub got something good going for them.
I heard their Mac and Cheese is really good, so if you don’t want brunch get your fix from the other menu items. I’ve heard great things.

Public School 214 (Dallas)

I spent my holiday break out in Dallas with family and friends. The day after Christmas, a good friend of mine suggested brunch at Public School 214. I rounded up a group of friends to check the place out, and I was not disappointed.

Public School 214 holds true to their name as the entire bar is somewhat school-themed. Globes are everywhere and the menu makes references to detention (aka happy hour) and school subjects. The menu is a composition notebook and the brunch menu is a scantron. Gotta love the creativity. I loved the atmosphere and everyone I was with enjoyed themselves too.

The Delectables

The food was AMAZING, A1, delicious, magnificent, decadent, whatever adjective you want to use, it applies here. I ordered the Jidori chicken and green chili cornbread waffles. Now I usually don’t order chicken and waffles because it’s so cliche, but they offered something I had never heard before so I took a step on the wild side. This was probably the best version of chicken and waffles I have ever had. The chicken was fried perfectly — crispy on the outside, tender and juicy in the middle. The waffle was great, not overly cooked like most places, and it was served with a gravy-type syrup that I can only explain to be “greatness”.

As I said before, I was with a few friends. They ordered the chicken sausage and grits, eggs Benedict pizza, and stuffed french toast (which was stuff with creamed Oreos 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾) . One of my friends who didn’t want brunch opted for the pizza with house-made pepperoni. The pizza at this place is no joke (better than most pizzerias and I’m a HUGE pizza lover). So if you’re not feeling the brunch menu, the pizza is definitely worth it.
But let’s stick to the program here.

Mimosas

Public School 214 offers bottomless mimosas for $10. Even better than most places, besides Cyclones, they have 4 options of bottomless mimosas to choose from (Mimosas, beermosas, etc.).

Service

The service was great, probably some of the best service I have ever had. They were prompt and personable. My favorite characteristic of a good brunch is how fast they refill the drinks. They were definitely not slacking in that area. We never had to ask for a refill because they were already on top of it.

Final Thoughts

A place this good may have me move out to Dallas. Houston, you have some competition! Better step it up!
Public School 214 gets a 5 out of 5 from me. Pure Heaven at a lunch room table.
