Snooze A.M. Eatery

One of my favorite things about Houston is the surplus of amazing restaurants that call this place home. Snooze A.M. Eatery has finally made the right decision and landed a primetime spot in the Montrose area. (If only In n Out would follow suit.) Snooze A.M. Eatery began in Denver, Colorado circa 2006. They have locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, and Texas (Austin & Houston). I actually had a chance to speak with their corporate trainer and she let me know they plan to open a Dallas location next year! They are open 6:30am to 2:30pm daily and as long as you are on the list before 2:30 you will be seated and served.

The menu is very creative. Snooze A.M. Reminds me of Another Broken Egg Cafe but without the old-timer menu options. I enjoyed the creativity and the many options. I usually don’t like expansive menus but the difference between each item is enough to please any brunch goer.

I ordered the Havana Day Dreaming — an open face breakfast sandwich featuring free- range pulled pork, shaved ham, gruyère cheese, homemade pickles, sunny-side up egg with Dijon hollandaise served on a ciabatta roll. People told me about how good the food was here but I thought it was a boost. This was one of the best sandwiches I ever had. The balance of all the flavors come together to create a knife and fork sandwich for the ages. The tender, naturally salted pork combined with the equally tasty gruyère cheese culminates perfectly with the creamy Dijon hollandaise and the yolk from the sunny side up egg. I absolutely loved it.

Although this place does not have bottomless mimosas…their mimosas are amazingly good and they do have champagne on tap. I need to contact corporate to see how to get one of these for the house (*sets reminder*). I enjoyed 3 of their mimosas, of course, the Original mimosa. I also had the Palomimosa and the Mmm Mmm Mimosa. The Palomimosa consists of champagne, tequila, Saint Germaine Liquer and grapefruit juice. It was a very different taste than anything I’ve had but I enjoyed it, and the mix of all the alcohol will get you where you need to be, as long as you’re ok with 8 bucks a glass. Not a big deal…but you know, bottomless is the Brunchaholics default! The Mmm Mmm Mimosa is just the regular mimosa with pomegranate Liquer added. Good flavor but wasn’t impressed. I might as well have gotten the regular one and called it a day.

I sat at the bar for my first time and loved it. My biggest complaint would be the ridiculous wait. When I first arrived I thought the wait was long because of how long people were eating, but I soon found the bottleneck to be the kitchen. The kitchen takes entirely too long to get food out. While waiting for a seat (2 hours) most of the patrons were not served for 30-40 minutes. If the kitchen cuts that time in half they could gain a lot more business. I mean let’s be honest, it’s breakfast food. It takes little to no time to make.

Even with the lack of kitchen effiency I thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The bar staff was very friendly and accommodating. I will be back to try their Benedict’s and French Toast which I noticed to be the crowd favorite.

Snooze A.M eatery gets a 4 out of 5 from me.

Brunchaholics out!
