Whenever you are on the east side of Plano, you must be sure to stop by Angela’s at the Crosswalk. This laid-back eatery is located in Historic Downtown Plano just off of 15th street when exiting Plano Parkway. This joint is not only known for their comfort food and specialty cocktails, but they sure do know how to attract a crowd with their live music.
Stirr, the hot new restaurant in Deep Ellum Texas. Open daily and features a live DJ Saturday night and Sunday after 3. Every time I’ve brunched here, it’s been on a Sunday afternoon. Walk in go upstairs and choose your area. (Open Seating). Be sure to ask for Natalie, she’s usually up there anyway but she’s the best. Takes care of me everytime I’m there. The manager is a real cool guy too. Now let’s get down to the business at hand… Brunch.
This being my second time here I had to be sure this wasn’t a fluke. And I’m happy to say it wasn’t. I started off the meal with the hangover tacos. I mean who can go wrong with chorizo and eggs? The natural flavor of the chorizo and the crema bring this taco together. Although they could use a little more salt I was definitely pleased.
You can never hit brunch alone, so of course, the crew had multiple tastes for the day. Stirr makes brunch fun with offerings like cinnamon rolls and homemade donuts. So, of course we had to try.
The made from scratch donuts rival your local breakfast stop. Covered in cinnamon in sugar they melt in your mouth. Made fresh as soon as you order, none of that heat lamp ish.
As you can see from the multiple pics above, the mimosas were flowing all afternoon. They have pitchers for $15. Some may call it pricey but they’re definitely not lacking in potency or flavor. With fresh squeezed O.J. you can’t go wrong.
As far as the taste it had a balanced level of sweetness. The cream cheese icing had the appropriate amount of gooeyness and it’s flavor wasn’t too overwhelming. Would’ve liked them to have actually been warmer. Although, it was just an appetizer the portion size coulda been a bit bigger. Not the amount of cinnamon rolls but the actual size.
The turkey sammich (I forgot the real name) was pretty decent. Would I order it again?… eh.. maybe but I wouldn’t tell anyone to stray away. I wish the sandwich would have been hotter but the balance in taste give it a very refreshing boost to your palette.
The brunch burger seems to get ordered each time by everyone but me. That’s changing on my next visit. Some of the comments included “This is pretty damn good” and Natalie, as well as the other waitress, both recommended it as their favorite. Don’t say a burger isn’t brunch. Brunch is a combo of lunch and breakfast. Never forget.
All in all, I am simply in love with Stirr and will probably be going back this week. Stirr gets a certified Brunchaholics 4 out of 5
Even Brunchaholics have to eat things other than brunch from time to time. When I’m in the mood for tacos I use my own personal recipe to crank them out. Check it out below and leave a comment with your results!
Cut Flank Steaks into large chunks. Season well with salt and pepper on all sides. Heat oil in a large skillet and sear the steaks (in batches if necessary) on all sides until browned. Transfer meat to the slow cooker.
Grab a bowl then combine the onions, cilantro, garlic, cumin, oregano, chili powder, paprika, beef broth, lime juice, and additional salt and pepper (to taste). Mix well, then pour over beef in the slow cooker and add bay leaves. Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours, until meat shreds easily. You can also cook on HIGH for 4-6 hours if you wanna cut the time down. I highly suggest low and slow to bring out the deeper flavors of the meat.
Once fork tender and ready to pull apart, remove bay leaves. Remove the beef and shred using hands (if you can stand the heat) or two forks. Return beef to slow cooker to cook for about 10 more minutes, or until ready to serve. Great on nachos, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, sliders, etc. Basically whatever you want to use it for, but try the tacos first. I’m sure it won’t be your last time!

Welcome to Remedy
Ask anyone in my close circle and they’ll tell you that brunching is my hobby. If it’s the weekend, and I’m in town, I’m brunching in Dallas. My favorite areas to explore are Uptown and Lower Greenville, so it’s no surprise I fell in love with a restaurant close to both. Remedy in Dallas is a hot spot on Greenville that deserves a weekend visit.
Like most restaurants I discover these days, I fell in love with the eatery via Instagram. Their daily posts of fresh menu items filled my feed for weeks before I was finally able to visit. Tucked between HG Sply Co and Steel City Pops, Remedy seems small at first. But after you walk in, you realize the restaurant goes far back and it seems roomy with its high ceilings. The soda fountain theme makes the place as visually eye catching as Remedy’s Instagram-worthy food.
To level the playing field between brunch eateries, I always order the chicken and waffles. Remedy’s chicken and waffles goes beyond the breakfast classic by adding Nashville Hot seasonings to their meat. Topped with fresh berries and a light syrup that I couldn’t get enough of, the staple dish did not disappoint. My brunching partner ordered the Texas Shrimp & Grits which were just as scrumptious from my healthy sample.
If you’re tired of boring mimosas for brunch, Remedy is the spot for you. Following the soda fountain theme, there are tons of unique bubbly sodas to try along with fresh cocktails. I rounded out my entree with a flavored mimosa. The price of most drinks ranged from five to 10 dollars.
Remedy is located at 2010 Greenville Avenue in Dallas, TX. Get there early for brunch served Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 am. You can make reservations online via OpenTable.

Lucille’s is located in the 3rd ward of Houston in what seems to be a remodeled house turned into a restaurant. How is that possible you ask? Well, Houston doesn’t have zoning laws so anything goes. I love the concept of it.
Lucille’s has a very small and intimate setting with a bar to sit at if you show up before your party. They are closed on Mondays but open every other day of the week, with brunch offered on Saturdays and Sundays.
Their brunch menu is small but effective. They have a down home comfort food approach to brunch which I can appreciate.
I ordered the Green Eggs and Ham as well the fish and grits. The green eggs and ham was delicious. I like eccentric takes on meals and this definitely fills that category. They give you an herb seasoned omelette (green eggs) and sous vide pork belly (ham); the omelette was very tasty and fresh. Cooked perfectly. It also came with goat cheese and hollandaise. The goat cheese combined with the hollandaise gave a perfect balance to the pork belly and omelette. I will definitely be back for this meal.
The second offering was the fish and grits — a fried catfish fillet with grits and eggs. The batter on the catfish had really good flavor but was too much in my opinion. Slicing into the fish was more of a hassle with having to fight through the thick crust. The eggs were not seasoned at all but were cooked very well. The grits were creamy which I liked. I believe Lucille’s knows that some people like the option of either having their grits seasoned or sweetened with sugar, but the creamy balance they achieved was good on its own. If you added anything to the grits it would just enhance the experience.
Lucille’s offers mimosas and sangria for their brunch beverages. Unfortunately, there is no bottomless or carafe option, but the mimosas were decent. However, for $6 per glass you would think they would use more of an upscale champagne rather than Wycliffe. Don’t get me wrong, Wycliffe is pretty good, but at $6 a glass I may as well go to the store and buy my own champagne and orange juice.
All in all I enjoyed Lucille’s and will be back to try more menu options. If you are looking for a quiet, calm setting with good food then this is the place. Just make sure you get there before noon. I went on a Sunday and the after church crowd fills the place up!

Another Broken Egg Cafe just recently opened in Pearland so I decided to check it out. It’s a part of a shopping center adding to the allure of what some call “new Pearland” near 518/Broadway and 288.
It’s a very small location and truly feels like an intimate cafe setting, staying true to their name and theme. Open 7 days a week 7am – 2pm, breakfast and lunch is served daily there, and yes… they serve mimosas and Bloody Mary’s.
I tried the regular mimosa first. Smooth. Good balance of bubbles and orange juice. They use Wycliffe champagne which is relatively cheap, but a much better taste and quality than your usual dose of Andre’ aka the $5 headache. After that I had the Orange Marmalade mimosa which was a nice switch up. It was definitely different from the usual mimosas that just use a different juice or flavor. It came with orange marmalade in the bottom and St. Germaine Elderflower liquerwith orange juice on top. It slightly reminds me of an old-fashioned. Again, definitely a different taste but it’s good and will have you feeling right so I definitely suggest you try one.
They also have Bloody Mary’s and Bellinis if that’s better suits your fancy.
Another Broken Egg Cafe has a very well-rounded menu. I decided on the Big Lucy Omelette with a side of biscuits and gravy. I know this place is new so I hope that’s why the omelette lacked anything resembling seasoning: salt, pepper, garlic — there was none of that. Luckily the salsa and Cholula provided were enough to satisfy my taste buds. The biscuits and gravy (in-house, along with in-house sausage) on the other hand were amazing. I wish I would have just gotten that as my meal instead. I’m a big fan of scratch-made food so this was a huge plus. I definitely recommend the biscuits and gravy to anyone who goes.
In conclusion, I will be back at Another Broken Egg Cafe, but I hope they see this post and make a few improvements in the kitchen. With that being said, Another Broken Egg Cafe gets a 3 out of 5.
Eggs Benedict is a Brunch classic and with many variations. You can substitute the ham for just about any protein you want so I suggest playing around with different iterations to find your fix. Please watch the video below provided by All Recipes

I’m starting to fall in love more and more with Dallas brunch spots. They know what they’re doing up in North Texas. (Not saying Houston doesn’t, but the creativity in Dallas is something to appreciate.)
While in town for a wedding I decided to check out Anvil Pub.
Judging from the area and the outside of the bar you wouldn’t expect a St. Paddy’s celebration bar (but hey, guess I ignored the fact that pub was in the name). Before I check out a brunch spot, I usually do some research on the menu unless I am directly told about a place. I’ll admit, initially I was caught off-guard by the ambience of such a unique place, in a good way. When I walked in there were soccer flags everywhere (so, if you’re a big soccer fan I would suggest checking this place out; I’m sure it’s a good time).
With self-seating, the on-staff then comes to take care of you. As I sat down at my table and took a look at the menu, I noticed the music playing. Remember how I described the bar earlier? It was 90’s hip-hop! I mean, we’re talking everything from “This Is How We Do It” to Biggie’s “Big Poppa”. The music was jamming the entire time, I loved it; It definitely seemed like a very welcoming place to hangout.
The ironically creative dish that brought me to this place combined the two things that made me start this blog — food and mimosas. Anvil Pub has a 4 drink selection that they like to call “The F**K Brunch Drinks”: a Mimosa, Bloody Mary, Screwdriver, And Sangria. Of course, you guys know I ordered the mimosa.
The twist on these drinks is that they come with side items. The mimosa came with a sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich, tater tots and mixed fruit, all put on skewers and inserted in the drink. Before you get grossed out, the sandwich and tater tots do not actually touch the drink. The food is prepared fresh and you’re given a half-pint of PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon for the uninitiated beer drinkers) while you wait. Talk about service!
So, the drink finally arrived and I was like a kid in a candy store. I tasted it, and it was immaculate; a fresh mimosa with a little extra. My guess is that they use high-grade fresh chilled champagne and probably added some type of liqueur.
Next, I tried the sandwich and it was delicious as you would expect. I mean, what sausage, egg and cheese sandwich isn’t, right? All the while my waitress is checking in every five minutes to make sure I’m okay, while “No Diggity” is playing in the background — my type of place.
Food (well the other stuff at least)
It felt weird to only try the drink, so I ordered a Salmon Eggs Benedict. Slightlyambitiousto order at a pub but I figured hey why not. So far so good. I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted the food and found out they had some real talent in the kitchen. Although slightly salty, the smoked salmon they used was delicious and the perfectly poached eggs were so impressive that I will definitely be coming back to try some other items on the menu. The only ding I would give them was their hash browns. They were more like potato matchsticks and tasted like old grease. Barely touched them. Other than that, Anvil Pub got something good going for them.
I heard their Mac and Cheese is really good, so if you don’t want brunch get your fix from the other menu items. I’ve heard great things.
All in all I will be back to try other drinks as well as the other menu food items.

I celebrated my birthday January 26th and decided to check out a new place (which I always do): Benjy’s.
This is an upscale place in Houston. There are two locations, but I visited the one on Washington Ave. and reserved a patio spot. The patio was amazing. Very nice day. Our location in the sun is the culprit for some of the shadows in the pics so bare with me. I’ll explain the extreme shadows in my pics later, please forgive me).
The scenery was very nice, and the service had a very classy feel. This would be a good spot for a date or nice dinner. I also hear their happy hour is legit.
The food was delicious! (I think I’m on a good streak of amazing places btw, I’m gonna have to keep this up!)
I decided to treat myself to an appetizer and a meal. First, I had the Biscuits and Country Gravy. Unfortunately, it was underwhelming. The gravy was decent but the biscuit itself was too sweet for my liking, almost cake-like.
As for my actual meal, well, I’ll be going back to have it again and again: the Fish and Grits (which was EXCELLENT!). Pure love for that meal. God bless the chef who made it, lol.
The fish was flaky and decadent, the shrimp was cooked to perfection, and the polenta with the folded cheese balanced the meal perfectly. The sauce used was amazing as well. Overall, just a great dish. The downside: it was slightly pricey, but good food has no price. Remember that!
I was with a few friends, so of course I had to showcase their meals.
There was the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken)which I sampled. The chicken was cooked well, but I was expecting a little more seasoning. It was slightly bland.
The Breakfast Plate looked like a regular breakfast plate but the presentation was well-executed. The friend eating it said that it was quite good.
The Braised Brisket Migas are the next menu item I will be ordering in addition to more fish & grits. Fluffy, perfectly cooked eggs with tender and juicy brisket is a must. Don’t ever doubt the power of brisket!
The Benjy’s French Toast was a table favorite; sweet but not overbearing with the syrup on it. Again, I’m not a big sweets person, but I thought the French toast was well executed. Almost had a melt in your mouth texture. Definitely worth ordering.
If you’ve been following my brunch journey then you know I love Mimosas. The Mimosas at Benjy’s are here to compete! They are very strong and not your typical orange juice and champagne. There were options of blood orange and white peach Mimosas, both of which were great tasting, but I preferred the white peach slightly more.
Once again, the downside: Benjy’s Mimosas are pricey and unlike food, that’s not ok…especially if you’re not using high quality champagne. However, the venue is so nice that they can get away with it. Personally, I think they should switch to a bottomless option or drop the carafe to around $10.
I truly enjoyed my birthday at Benjy’s and would love to go back. The Mimosas were memorable and I had a dream about the fish and grits the other day; can’t wait to try that in my kitchen.
Benjy’s on Washington Ave. recieves a 4 out of 5. The biscuits and And bland chicken took it from 5 out of 5, but the fish and grits almost saved it.
